The Vice President of Operations (VP of Ops) is a key strategic and operational leader responsible for shaping, directing, and optimizing field operations nationwide. This role works closely with functional leaders across Finance, Supply Chain, IT, HR, and Sales to drive operational excellence, elevate the customer experience, and ensure seamless execution of strategic priorities.

The VP oversees the Director of Field Operations and maintains a dotted-line leadership relationship with Division Operations Managers to ensure consistency, accountability, and performance across all service centers and distribution locations.

Essential Duties/Accountabilities

  • Develop and execute operational strategies that support long-term business goals, financial performance, and customer value.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and operational consistency across all field locations.
  • Lead operational transformation initiatives, including process optimization, technology adoption, and efficiency enhancements.
  • Provide senior leadership, direction, and mentorship to the Director of Field Operations.
  • Influence Division Operations Managers through a dotted-line relationship to ensure alignment with corporate standards and divisional needs.
  • Ensure consistent execution of company policies, procedures, safety protocols, and operational standards at all locations.
  • Own enterprise-level initiatives spanning multiple divisions, ensuring consistent rollout, adoption, and accountability.
  • Monitor and report key operational metrics, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to improve profitability and asset protection.
  • Champion data-driven decision making to improve service center performance, mitigate loss, and reduce operational variability.
  • Direct audit, compliance, and loss-prevention programs to protect company assets.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Supply Chain, IT, HR, and Sales to support cross-functional goals and enterprise initiatives.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to optimize inventory flow, delivery efficiency, and service reliability.
  • Work with HR on workforce planning, leadership development, performance management, and organizational capability within field operations.
  • Engage IT to enhance productivity through system improvements, data tools, and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure operational readiness for facility openings, relocations, expansions, remodels, and closures.
  • Provide oversight and risk guidance for major capital projects affecting field operations.
  • Lead change management for company-wide operational initiatives, ensuring successful adoption across divisions.
  • Serve as a bridge between corporate leadership and field operations to ensure strategic clarity and alignment.
  • Regularly engage division and branch leadership teams to reinforce expectations, support operational needs, and promote corporate alignment.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in operations, distribution, retail/wholesale, or multi-site environments.
  • Proven success leading geographically dispersed operations at a senior or executive level.
  • Strong financial, analytical, and operational acumen with experience driving performance across large field networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale change, improve processes, and enhance operational capability.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time.
