The Precon Director is responsible for leading preconstruction and design-phase activities across multiple projects, a business unit, or a single large and complex project. This role provides strategic and technical leadership across estimating, procurement, scheduling, design coordination, project planning, and risk management while partnering closely with business development and operations leadership.

The position will lead pursuit and preconstruction strategies, develop pricing and proposal responses, identify and mitigate project risks, and establish relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other industry partners. The role also provides leadership and development for preconstruction and operations teams while supporting business growth and profitability.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related technical field.
  • 9+ years of experience leading teams in operations, preconstruction, estimating, procurement, scheduling, or supply chain.
  • 5+ years of experience within the construction management, general contracting, engineering, or architectural industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects, pursuits, or preconstruction activities.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, teams, and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven experience developing estimates, proposals, fee strategies, procurement plans, schedules, and project risk assessments.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, project delivery, estimating, procurement, and design-phase coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver results in complex project environments.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal leadership.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Experience with multiple project delivery methods, including Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), or similar models.
  • Experience leading design-phase and design-build management activities.
  • Experience with large, complex, or technically sophisticated construction projects.
  • Established relationships with owners, architects, engineering firms, subcontractors, and other AEC industry partners.
  • Experience leading business development pursuits and client capture strategies.
  • Experience developing and implementing preconstruction processes, procurement strategies, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Previous responsibility for coaching, developing, and managing preconstruction or operations professionals.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to improve project profitability, fee structures, and gross margin performance.
  • Knowledge of local construction markets, economic conditions, labor markets, subcontractor availability, and industry trends.
