Regional Underwriting Operations Counsel (Title Risk Leadership)

Overview

A leading title insurance provider is hiring a Regional Underwriting Operations Counsel to serve as a senior legal and underwriting leader supporting a multi-state region. This position combines hands-on underwriting authority with oversight of regional underwriting workflow, mentorship, and operational consistency.

The role is ideal for an experienced underwriting counsel who is ready to take on broader leadership responsibilities while maintaining direct involvement in complex risk decisions and agent partnership.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide regional oversight and guidance to underwriting counsel and staff, promoting consistency and best practices

  • Make underwriting risk determinations on high-complexity and escalated title matters

  • Support team development through training, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing initiatives

  • Lead internal communication on underwriting standards, regulatory updates, and legal developments

  • Partner with Agency and Claims teams on agent support, retention, and claims-related legal analysis

  • Develop and present educational programming for employees and external agent audiences

  • Assist with regional workflow coordination, performance feedback, and onboarding of new underwriting staff

  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on underwriting governance and operational improvement


Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited institution

  • Active Bar License in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • 10+ years of title insurance underwriting counsel experience

  • 2+ years of underwriting leadership, mentorship, or team oversight experience

  • Strong legal reasoning, risk analysis, and communication skills


Preferred Experience

  • Leading underwriting teams in a distributed or remote environment

  • Regional underwriting governance and workflow ownership

  • Deep expertise in real estate transactions, title curative issues, and regulatory interpretation
